Lomita, California is a small city that sits about right in the middle of the South Bay area of Los Angeles. It started out as a farming village in 1907. Lomita was incorporated in 1964 and the family oriented homeowners put a stop on the large industrial and high rise businesses from taking over their “village” after “black gold” was discovered in the area in 1923.
Today, Lomita remains a family oriented little town, in the center of everything, and its only about 30 minutes from downtown Los Angeles. It has about 20,000 residents who are involved in the many community events taking place in Lomita like the Western Family Fun Night and Lomita Founder’s Day Fair. The Lomita Railroad Museum is visited by people from all over the world and remains one of the top attractions in the city.
Industries and employers in Lomita consists of educational, health and social services, manufacturing, much retail, professional, scientific, management and waste management services. Students in grades K-12 are served by schools of the L.A. Unified School District. Lomita offers a very active Parks and Recreation Department offering the residents many options year long.
